Floating offshore wind turbine | Nass&Wind

winflo

Winflo, an integrated floating wind turbine

• an innovative semi-submersible platform ;
• a wind turbine specifically designed to float offshore ;
• an innovative anchoring system, suitable for all seabed types ;
• easier maintenance, for optimal production ;
• a machine suited to depths in excess of 50 m.

The Winflo Project in just a few words

• a French multi-megawatt floating wind turbine technology development project  ;
• coordinated by Nass&Wind Industrie, major player in wind sector, in close partnership with DCNS, international industrial player in ship building and marine renewables, and Vergnet, experienced in turbine engineering and manufacturing for harsh environments. The consortium also benefits from the experience of two renowned scientific partners : IFREMER (Sea Research Institute) and the university ENSTA-Bretagne ;
• a life-size demonstrator to be tested in 2014 ;
• the machine will be manufactured in pre-series, and marketed from 2016 onwards ;
• the budget for this project is over €35 million ;
• Winflo was officially recognised by Pôle Mer Brittany in November 2008 and has been awarded in 2010 by the French government, thus receiving important funding from the programme “Investissements d’Avenir” (French state investment programme on strategic topics) ;
• a pilot-farm is planned for 2016, before the first deployments due to take place from 2018 on ;
• this project is perfectly in tune with the ‘Grenelle de la Mer’ commitments (Blue Book – Commitments 1 & 2).

The three strands of the Winflo Project

energy: To contribute to the French energy supply in a way that is
profitable, useful and efficient ;
technology : To develop French technology that is both original and competitive at world level ;
industrial : To create a French industrial sector, at the right time, on a national and international market that is growing strongly. Approximately thirty engineers are currently working on this project which, in the industrial phase, will generate 5,000 jobs, including 1,000 direct jobs.
